Govt inquiry into alleged illegal transfer of Davorlim Comunidade land

PORVORIM: Revenue Minister Atanasio ‘Babush’ Monserrate on Friday assured the House to launch an inquiry into the allegations levelled by MLAs that Comunidade lands were illegally transferred to builders in Davorlim.

Navelim MLA Ulhas Tuenkar and Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco alleged that documents were forged and large chunks of Davorlim Comunidade lands were sold and subsequently sub-divided into small plots where constructions have started coming up.

Margao MLA Digambar Kamat urged the government to clear the encroachments from Comunidade lands and also to take required steps to revive the defunct Communidades in South Goa.

Replying to the MLAs, the Revenue Minister said, “I will tell the administrator to inquire into it. I assure you that no one will be spared and we will take Comunidades to task. I will take action after the administrator submits his report on the allegations, if there are any irregularities committed then we will look into it. Be rest assured that justice will be done.”

Monserrate informed that there are 14 defunct Comunidades in South Goa and added that the government will explore all possibilities to make such Comunidades functional with the help of concerned administrator, local body and the local MLA.
