Govt is covering up bankruptcy by selling SEZ land, says AAP

MARGAO: Aam Aadmi Party on Monday said Goa is heading to extinction faster than one can imagine with the government trying to cover up its bankruptcy by indulging in massive sell out of Special Economic Zones (SEZ) land either illegally or under colour of legality.

AAP leader Sidharth Karapurkar said that there was no logic in selling out of SEZ land again after its sale was blocked by the people through a prolonged agitation.

“Why is the government going all out to sell the land on such a big scale through a property consultant? There is sweat and blood of various people including leaders such as Matanhy Saldanha in saving the land doled out for SEZ by the then Congress government,” said Karapurkar.

“The BJP government has shown that it is no different from the Congress. It should resign if it has gone bankrupt and go for fresh elections,” said Karapurkar, as the government is showing hurry to sell the over 38 lakh sq metres of land through a global tender.

He said that the people of Goa should be cautious about the evil design of the government which had compromised the matter with the parties that had purchased SEZ land even though the High Court had termed the sale by the then Congress government as fraudulent.

“BJP had called it a scam. But the scam perpetuates under BJP. AAP demands that the land should be put to use to promote local businesses rather than outright sale to real estate sharks from outside. AAP also calls upon those groups that opposed SEZ to unite along with the comunidades that originally owned the land and throw a legal challenge to stop the government from selling Goa. We have consulted a top lawyer in New Delhi who is willing to take up the cause,” said Karapurkar.
