PANJIM: Stating that the people are trying their best to safeguard their land from land sharks, the Congress party on Saturday accused the Goa government of selling land to outsiders and said that it would keep a surveillance on all such activities of land grabbing and selling by the government and act accordingly.

Congress alleged that the Comunidade land is kept for our future generation but the “government is taking bribes and selling it off to outsiders.” The party said that around 7-8 years back, a mini India was proposed to be set up at Quelossim village.

“The present Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho was pushing for this project but on realising that

villagers, opposing this project, will not bog down to government pressure, he is diverting it to Chicolna village,” said Capt Viriato Fernandes the Congress candidate from Dabolim in the recent Assembly elections.

The Congress said the villagers are vehemently opposing the project as the government in the name of development, is spending several crores of rupees.

“The people are trying their best to safeguard their land from land sharks and the government is trying to sell it to outsiders. The Congress party will keep surveillance on all such activities of land grabbing and selling by the government and act accordingly,” he said.

Also, Congress spokesperson Sanjay Barde alleged that one BJP member has grabbed 45000 square mtrs govt land in Dhargal village which has been converted and sold as plots. He demanded that all illegalities be exposed by SIT without targeting a few people.
