PANJIM: The State government on Sunday issued an order enforcing the curfew extension till May 31 at 7 am.
The order follows the announcement made by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday extending the curfew by a week.
Additional restrictions imposed in COVID containment zones shall remain in force and any persons found contravening the orders shall be punishable under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 51 to 60 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005
In their orders, the District Collectors pointed out that in view of the spiralling cases the State government had earlier imposed a 15-day State-wide curfew from May 10 to May 23.
“The same has now been extended till May 31 as cases are still being reported in high numbers in Goa and other parts of the country and the situation might aggravate due to public gatherings and active interactions along with high positivity rate,” read the orders issued by both the district collectors.
All essential commodity stores will be open from 7 am to 1 pm during the curfew period.
