Govt launches financial aid for registered fish vendors

PANJIM: The Directorate of Fisheries has launched a scheme for providing financial assistance to the fish vendors, who are registered with the directorate.

The fish vendors can apply and avail the financial assistance to purchase the fishing accessories such as choppers, insulated box, crates for fish storage, gloves, stool, platform for keeping fish, weighing balance, umbrella for shed and other equipment required for fish vending, reads the scheme.

“This initiative has been taken by the Directorate of Fisheries to maintain hygiene surrounding the area from where the customers buy fish. The registered fish vendors are invited to apply in large numbers and avail the benefits of the scheme,” Deputy Director of the Fisheries Chandrakant Velip urged.

Providing further details, Velip said that the original invoice towards purchase of equipment, identity card issued by the Department of Fisheries along with Aadhaar Card and other mandatory documents as asked to produce by the department at the time of application is to be attached to avail the benefit.

“While the Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Women category can claim for 50 per cent subsidy, the fish vendors falling under the General category are entitled to claim for the subsidy of 60 per cent of the total cost,” he added.

The scheme can be claimed once after every three years.
