PANJIM: Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar on Thursday launched the scheme for sale of coconuts at subsidised rates from the horticulture outlet at Altinho.
“This initiative is aimed at making it convenient for people to buy coconuts at affordable rates. The scheme is for sale of coconuts for two months initially. Considering the price in the market we will decide on continuation of the scheme. The production of coconuts came down in Goa due to monkey menace,” Parrikar said, addressing the gathering
Former Panjim MLA Sidharth Kuncalienker said coconuts were being sourced directly from the farm to the market to make them available at affordable rates.
Under the scheme, 15 coconuts per family will be made available once in 15 days. Customers will have to produce gas consumer card to avail the benefit. Customers are to approach Goa State Horticultural Corporation Ltd outlets in their jurisdiction only, with the gas consumer card.
The scheme is currently implemented in two horticulture outlets in Goa. The government plans to cover all other outlets within 15 days.
