VASCO: Chairman of the sub-committee for regularization of illegal houses, Mauvin Godinho, stated that the committee has already submitted its final proposal to the government and a decision on the same will most likely be taken at the forthcoming assembly session.
“After holding a series of committee meetings, we have prepared a final proposition, which was recently submitted to the government. We have put forth two options: firstly, amend the code of comunidade, and secondly, introduce a bill to regularise illegal structures, which will benefit a large number of people as they will become legal owners of the land occupied by them. In return, the comunidade and government will get some revenue,” said Godinho.
He was speaking to reporters after a meeting called by Alto-Chicalim residents to voice their grievances on Friday. The residents had submitted a memorandum of the issues faced by them and requested speedy resolution to the same. One of the key issues was the non-lifting of garbage by the panchayat.
