PANJIM: The government is likely to release a photo book on former Chief Minister (late) Manohar Parrikar as a tribute on behalf of the State during the upcoming “Manohar Parrikar Vidnyan Mahotsav” next month.
Government sources informed Herald that the huge collections of photos are contribution from the photo journalists through Directorate of Information & Publicity and government’s archives. “The photo book is a compilation of his rare as well as most prominent pictures. These will include his political journey, personal life, etc. We are still in the process of collecting more pictures. The release of this book will be a tribute to the tall leader, who not only excelled in his political career but was also a great human being,” said a bureaucrat.
The book is likely to be released on December 13, 2019, the second day of the Mahotsav, and the former CM’s birth anniversary.
CM Pramod Sawant had recently announced the proposal to launch two books on the life and political career of his mentor and predecessor on the Parrikar’s birth anniversary. During the condolence meet on March 20, 2019 three days after Parrikar’s death, Sawant had invited inputs on experience with former CM while proposing to publish a book on the former’s ideologies that would be an inspiration for the future generation.
The Vidnyan Mahotsav, the annual event being hosted in memory of Parrikar, will comprise of lectures, dialogues with students/teachers/researchers/industries and general public with the theme – “Science for Society.”
The agreement between Director General of CSIR and Goa government in the presence of Sawant this month, has a mention that Parrikar, while inaugurating the event last year had announced that it could be an annual feature to be organised by the State Department of Science and Technology. “The Government will live up to the commitment of Parrikar and to give a befitting tribute to this Science & Technology visionary, has decided to hold a science festival comprising of lectures, dialogues with students/teachers/researchers/industries and general public in his memory under the banner “Manohar Parrikar Vidnyan Mahotsav” with the theme – Science for Society,” it states.
