PANJIM: The Cabinet on Wednesday decided to extend the loan-cum-grant scheme to urban government aided schools which have completed five years of their existence, instead of eight years.
It also decided to transfer the Rs 3.12 crore in the Canacona Relief Fund to the Uttarakand Relief Fund.
To be eligible for the scheme now all the educational institutions have to complete five years in the field of education irrespective of whether they are in Rural or Urban areas. Earlier, schools in rural areas had to be at least 5 years old, while for schools in urban areas the eligibility was eight years.
“This is to make it uniform for both urban and rural areas,” Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar told media after the cabinet meeting.
He also said that the Rs 3.12 crore lying in the Canacona Relief Fund will be sent to Uttarkand.
“This money was collected after the Canacona Disaster,” the chief minister said promising that if there is any development to be done as per the plan the money would be given through the budget.
In Uttarakand the state government is looking to rehabilitate two villages affected by the recent flash floods and landslides.
