VASCO: GPCC Vice President Sankalp Amonkar opined that the govt machinery is being misused against him and others who are highlighting the failures of the government and the local MLA.
He and others were arrested last night for breaking social distancing norms and later released on bail.
Amonkar said, “He was ready to get arrested hundreds of times, but would not back out from highlighting people’s issues.”
“As an active Opposition we have played a crucial role in highlighting various issues from Mormugao Constituency. I am pained to witness that on Sunday after I took a press briefing in my office, we were arrested and brought to the police station,” he said.
“All are bailable sections. We had not committed any heinous crime to be arrested in the late night. I sense a hidden agenda behind this,” he said.
The senior Congress leader alleged that the government machinery was being misused to target a few.
“No other person is coming forward and filing a complaint against us. We have a right of freedom of speech and expression and I feel somewhere our right is being suppressed. We live in a democracy and not a dictatorship,” he said.
Amonkar also cited some examples of MLAs who had organised meetings, gatherings, inaugural functions when COVID-related restrictions were on but no such action has been initiated against them.
