PANJIM: The government is proposing to bring taxi operators at Dabolim airport under a single window system in an effort to resolve conflicts among taxi operators.
A government official held a meeting with taxi associations operating at the airport at Dabolim airport. According to officials, the new system is proposed to start when the new airport terminal at Dabolim is fully functional, possibly by next week.
While the government is working out solutions for taxi operators all across the state, special attention is also being given to the problems faced by taxi operators at the airport.
“The government is keen on working out solutions for taxi operators at Dabolim in particular as they are the first tourism ambassadors who meet tourists when they arrive in Goa and conflicts and tensions between the warring groups sends out a poor message to visitors,” a tourism official said.
The tourism department has been trying to resolve the conflicts between the two groups of taxi operators which has a total fleet of over than 300 taxis.
Another section of yellow and black taxis also operate at the airport adding to the frequent clashes.
Until recently the taxi operators were not ready to consider being brought under a single window system. However the tourism department has managed to break the ice only recently and dialogues would continue during the next couple of days to put the systems in place.
Thursday’s meeting between the government and taxi operators from North and South Goa and the core committee constituted to chalk out solutions for taxi operators across the State was postponed. The meeting is likely to be convened shortly.
Herald has learnt that taxi operators are still up in arms against tour operators and are unhappy with the latest introduction of Ola taxis in Goa.
The latter issue is also likely to be raised during discussions, it is reported.
