PANJIM: The State government has set in motion to execute the project to provide hassle free Wi-Fi network and hotspots to the citizens and tourists at selective places of Goa to use the internet.
The Dept of Information Technology, Electronics and Communication has invited tender for empanelment of agencies for providing internet bandwidth and public Wi-Fi hotspots in the State. The purpose of this project is to provide accessible internet connectivity to citizens, especially in areas with limited connectivity. The deployment of public Wi-Fi hotspots will help bridge the digital divide and enable citizens to access online services, information, and entertainment.
“The Goa government wants to establish 100+ Wi-Fi hotspots across the state at the identified locations for providing free internet services to the citizens and tourists,” reads the brief in the tender document.
In accordance with the aim of the project, the scope of the selected bidder includes supply, installation, commissioning and operate the key network components for a tenure of one year initially. In its tender document the department has stated that upon satisfactory performance of bidder, the same can be extended for two more years.
