Govt notifies blue and white cabs at Mopa Airport

PANJIM: The State government has notified the blue and white motorcabs prepaid taxi service at the Mopa International Airport.

The government has inserted a new rule 158A by amending the Goa Motor Vehicles Rules, 1991. “Motorcabs attached to Blue cab Prepaid Taxi Service at Manohar International Airport at Mopa shall be painted in blue colour, as specified by the Regional Transport Authority and rest of the body in white colour,” reads the notification.

The taxi operators from Pernem taluka were strongly demanding yellow and black pre-paid taxi counter at the Mopa airport but the government introduced blue cab service.

Meanwhile, the Pernem office of the assistant Director of Transport is scrutinising the large number of applications received form the Pernem locals desiring to start taxi service. Currently scrutiny of the applications is going on after which it will be submitted to the regional Transport Authority (RTA), Pernem, for approval.

Meanwhile, the post of RTA, Pernem has fallen vacant following the retirement of the incumbent Prahlad Dessai on superannuation last month. The government is yet to appoint a new chairman of RTA, Pernem.
