Govt notifies new police station at Mandrem

PANJIM: The State government has issued notification for establishing a new police station at Mandrem in Pernem taluka.

The Mandrem police station is likely to cater to the needs of villages situated in the coastal belt.

According to a government notification, 11 villages, which are currently under the jurisdiction of Pernem police station, will be brought under the limits of Mandrem police station.

The areas currently brought within the jurisdiction of Mandrem police station will cease to be within the jurisdiction of Pernem Police Station, the notification issued by Vivek K Naik, Under Secretary (Home-1), said.

As per the notification, the villages to be under the jurisdiction of new Mandrem police station are Keri, Terekhol, Palyem, Kiranpani, Arambol, Mandrem, Agarwada, Chopdem, Parsem and Tuem.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had announced in June this year that a new police station will be set up at Mandrem.

Pernem Taluka had initially only one police station which catered to 20 village panchayats and one municipal council.

Later, the government set up Mopa Airport Police Station for the new international airport and the villages surrounding it, which helped in reducing the workload of the Pernem police station.
