Govt offers golden handshake to Sanjivani sugar factory workers

PONDA: The Goa government is all set to retire 177 workers employed at Sanjivani sugar factory through a Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) scheme and a  notification has already been issued in this regard.

It is reportedly learnt that the Director of Agriculture Neville Alphonso has already forwarded a letter to the administrator of Sanjivani Co-Operative Sugar Factory at Sanjivaninagar- Dharbandora.

It is learnt that funds for payment of salary and operating expenditure are released to Sanjivani Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana Ltd under the scheme ‘Financial assistance to the Sanjivani Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana Ltd’.

As per notification, the scheme was valid for a period of three years and has completed three financial years by March, 2023.

 The proposal was submitted to Government for according approval for extending the period of the scheme for further two years. However, the Finance (Expenditure) Department turned down the concurrence to above proposal.

 The Finance Department has directed to take immediate steps to give VRS to all employees of Sanjivani Co-op Society and seek funds for final settlement.

There are currently 177 workers here, out of which 28 are employed on contract workers and 99 are permanent.
