NEW DELHI: The Congress on Friday submitted a 7-page memorandum to the Election Commission, accusing the BJP government in Madhya Pradesh of violation of the Model Code of Conduct and misuse of the government officers to terrorise people.
Congress MPs Jyotiraditya Scindia and Vivek Katju said they told the Chief Election Commissioner that they had to knock at his door because of “non-action” by the state’s chief election officer despite many complaints in the ensuing by-elections for Mungawali and Kolaras Assembly seats.
“We want the impartial elections that will not be possible from the way the MP government is vitiating the atmosphere,” Scindia told reporters after meeting the CEC. He said the Election Commission assured to act soon after examining the memorandum.
The memorandum cited violations of the model code by the state government by writing names of Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan on the walls of the houses built in Mungawali constituency under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana to influence the voters.
The model code was also violated by the ruling BJP by organising a “Mere Deendayal” competition on January 24 and announcement by state agriculture minister Gaurishankar Visen in Barwah village of Mungaoli constituency to provide farm loans at 0% interest to defaulting farmers, the memorandum said.
