PONDA: After complains from the public about delay in services in the government offices, the Ponda Taluka MLAs directed the Deputy Collector, Mamlatdar and BDOs to expedite tenancy & mundkarial cases and to promptly clear long-pending files and office related works of the public.
On Thursday, Shiroda MLA Subash Shirodkar, Ponda MLA Ravi Naik and Priol MLA who is also the Cooperation Minister, Govind Gaude, met these government officials and others at the Ponda Rajiv Gandhi Kala Mandir. Directions were also issued for giving quick services to the people approaching the officials for government schemes
The meeting was held to review the functioning of government offices against the backdrop of COVID-19 pandemic in Ponda after complaints from the public that these offices are acting slowly on their files, pending tenant mundkarial cases and development works.
However, the government officials elaborated on the difficulties they have been facing such as shortage of staff etc.
Addressing reporters after the meeting, Gaude said, “There were a lot of complaints from the public about the lethargic attitude of government officials due to which the public were suffering. The public were complaining that most of the government staff spent their time on their mobile phones. Some government staffers are working as if they are only coming for salary. They don’t know that they are for the services of the public.”
While stating that another review meeting will be held later on, the Minister added, “Although, COVID-19 pandemic hampered the work for the past six to seven months, it is now around 10 to 15 years, around 550 tenant cases are pending while 300 mundkarial cases are pending. Besides, there are several mundkars and tenants who are unaware about their status of land they are in possession of. The government officials need to expedite work so that the public are not forced to visit these offices again and again.
He also mentioned that he will raise the matter with the Chief Minister.
Shirodkar said, “ The govt could cooperate with the staff by providing necessary equipment but work in government offices should get expedited.
Naik said, “It is now almost 45 years passed now since the Tenancy and Mundkarial Act was passed in Goa however still these cases are pending in Mamlatdar Court. Work needs to be done quickly so that people can get justice.”
