CORTALIM: Officials from various departments on Tuesday conducted a site inspection of the alleged land filling at Chauder in Cortalim.
The officials led by the member of Goa State Biodiversity Board Celso Dias inspected the area and interacted with the officials of the other departments and the complainant.
The complainant told the officials that the land filling of the paddy field were taken up in piecemeal taking advantage of holidays and Sundays.
“Some 10 to 15 trucks would start dumping mud in a day and later in the evening, the heavy machinery would then level the mud and this modus operandi would continue after some days,” informed the complainant.
During inspection, a room was seen on the fringes of the property with water and light connection, thereby raising question on the role. However, Technical Assistant, PWD, Mohan Naik was quick to submit that the department releases water connection only after the NOC is issued by the panchayat.
Later, Dias informed that the GSBB will prepare a report after getting the feedbacks of various departments and then the complainant will be informed. The officials were also informed of similar land filling in the vicinity which made way for scrap yards and other businesses.
Others officials present were Reshma Kerkar of GSBB, Prabhu Akki and Rajendar Verlekar of Agriculture Department, Mormugao TCP, S Kerkar talathi attached to Mormugao Department and the sarpanch.
