PANJIM:  Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Girish Chodankar on Saturday accused the government of operating a well-organised fraud of Rs 300 crore in Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC).

Addressing the media persons, Chodankar has alleged that Health Minister Vishwajit Rane is directly and the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant is indirectly involved in the scam.

“Range by floating tender for “Facility Management Services” (FMS) in Goa Medical College is in the making of well-organised fraud to the tune of Rs 300 crore in GMC and other State-run hospitals,” he said.

Chodankar demanded that the Chief Minister should clarify on the alleged fraud within three days, failing which it will endorse that he is partner in this loot of public money.

“We demand that this tendering process should be immediately scrapped and new process should be started abiding the rules and following all codal formalities,” the Opposition said.

While elaborating the facts and events, Chodankar said the tender floated by GMC on January 29, for FMS (services of supplying labourers for plumbing, electrical, gardening and allied services to be catered in Goa Medical College, IPHB Bambolim, TB Hospital-St Inez, and Rural Health Centre-Mandur) has been manipulated to ‘select the favourite contractor as loot can be done easily by desisting GSIDC.

“Even a free hand has been given to the contractor to finalise annual maintenance of DG sets, transformers, HT. LT Breakers and protection system, HVAC (Chillers and its system), fire fighting system, split ACs, and window ACs, Internet services and painting–exterior/interior,” Chodankar informed as he further elaborated on the scam.

“The one who has got the tender is not technically qualified to carry out the work and no technical sanction or administrative approval is issued for this work,” he claimed.
