Govt plans to reduce aggregate AT&C losses in power sector

PANJIM: With a focus on to bring reforms in power sector, the State government plans to reduce aggregate technical and commercial (AT&C) losses below 10 per cent within three years. 

Goa AT&C losses at present are at 11.2 per cent, as against the target of 13.5 per cent set by the Union Power Ministry. 

The State Electricity Department in its “Vision Document” has also proposed to introduce gas insulated sub-stations (GIS) — which is a high voltage substations, in which a major conducting structures are contained within a sealed environment and smart meters in the prepaid billing mode to its consumers to reduce losses. 

As per the vision, the department proposed to reduce the AT&C losses to below 10 per cent within three years. 

To achieve the same, the department proposes reforms to improve the technical losses by substantial capital expenditure involving change of conductors with HTLS conductors, underground cabling, GIS sub-stations and augmentation of sub-station capacities. 

“Thus the overall AT&C losses will be reduced,” the document states.

 The Union Ministry has recently granted permission to the State to borrow an additional Rs 44 crore for power reforms.
