MARGAO: Town and Country Planning Minister Vijai Sardesai, on Monday, disclosed plans to shift all the scrap yards operating in Fatorda to an industrial zone either at Margao Industrial Estate or Verna Industrial Estate. “Nobody wants a scrap yard in a residential area,” he said while announcing plans to shift them elsewhere.
He said the image of Chandrawado needs to be changed and said the area will turn into a modern junction provided the people instil discipline into themselves.
While commissioning works tendered for Rs 1.55 crore to attend to the roads in Chandrawado he said the “mohalla” image of the area implying that it is Muslim dominated has to be changed and appealed for help from the local Phoenix Club.
He said the club will have to help instil a discipline in various matters, including parking, and said once the discipline comes in the image of the area will also change. “Nobody wants a scrap yard in a residential area,” he said while announcing plans to shift them elsewhere.
“Scrap yards are contributing to solid waste management as they are managing scrap that is a solid waste,” he said and argued that the government should give them some facilities and by bringing them all together at one place would be one such move.
