Govt primary schools on verge of closure in Ponda

PONDA: Several government primary schools (GPSs) are on the verge of closure in the Ponda Taluka. 

Already, 47 are closed due to poor enrollment of students, while out of 104 operating schools, 20 have less than 10 enrollment of students which too are likely to close. This means that 50 per cent of schools would be closed in the near future.

On the occasion of 110th birth anniversary of first chief minister of Goa and founder of Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party Dayanand Bandodkar, who was fondly know as “Bhausaheb”, artist Sagar Mulvi draw a portrait of first Chief Minister showing  background of primary school in dilapidated state to display the present bad condition of primary schools in the State. 

He said, “The primary schools set up by first Chief Minister, was his dream and major contribution to the Bahujans Samaj.” Sagar said that he is pained to see that the school he studied is closed for shortage of students. 

He said not only the government, teachers but villagers and parents too responsible for the closure of the school, who had shifted the students to private KG and primary schools.
