PORVORIM: Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte on Monday said that the government is promoting homestays in hinterland areas to empower the economically backward people especially women.
Speaking during demands for Tourism, Printing and Stationary and Information Technology Departments, he said that home stays are being promoted in Sattari, Dharbandora, Sanguem, Bicholim, Quepem, Ponda and Canacona talukas.
He said, “It is being done to empower the economically backward people, especially women, so that they can earn some money.”
The minister said that cab aggregator is the way to move ahead and the technology cannot be ignored.
“Goa Miles is giving reduced rates. It is for the tourists to decide. We have given Goa Taxi also. Tourism cannot be promoted, if someone does not want to work. The world is moving with the aggregator. Technology cannot be avoided. I am also on the same page,” he said.
Khaunte said the renewal process for shacks has already started and it will be ensured that shacks are operational before September 30. “Before September 30 we will collectively ensure that shacks are operational as on October 1, 2024, before the tourism season starts. The government is working on the commitment it has given to the people,” he said.
