PANJIM: The State government has discontinued the scheme wherein payments for COVID treatments in private hospitals were being accepted under Deen Dayal Swastha Seva Yojana (DDSSY).
DDSSY Consultant Dr Balkrishna Pai confirmed that the government had issued an order on June 14 to private hospitals halting DDSSY payments for the treatment of COVID patients. He said the earlier order was for one month and now there is ample space at government hospitals in terms of bed availability.
The government order regarding capped rates at private hospitals for COVID treatment continues and is valid until June 30.
Speaking to the media, families of patients at private hospitals in the North and South were however upset with development and the fact that there was not enough awareness created to inform the public that this scheme had been discontinued.
Reportedly Chief Minister and Health Minister had spoken extensively about how the DDSSY scheme at private hospitals would reduce the huge financial burden faced by patients as well as help decrease the load across various government hospitals.
Government-appointed coordinators at private hospitals have also been relieved from their duty.
The government order regarding admissions in private hospitals for COVID hospitals has also been withdrawn.
