PANJIM: Following protest by the students of Goa Dental College, the State government on Saturday rolled back the hike in the tuition fees, which was more than 800 per cent for various postgraduate courses.

As per the notification issued on November 6; per semester fees were hiked from Rs 12,000 to Rs one lakh for the students, who had approached the government demanding not to implement the revised fee structure.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Saturday took on social media to announce that there will be no increase in the fees for both the institutions of Goa Dental College.
He said that the notification was issued as a result of communication gap between the college and the Directorate of Health Services.
“With reference to hike in fee structure at Goa Dental College, it was a matter of communication gap between the Health Department and both the institutions of the dental colleges,” he tweeted.
“However, we have issued necessary instructions, not to increase the fees for both the institutions,” he tweeted further. At the time of admission and counselling the students were told that the fees would be as per the rates then in force which led to panic.
The Health Department had said that the notification for fee hike was issued following the proposal received from the college.
