PANJIM: In a move that will help reduce the academic burden on students at the primary level, the State government has directed the Academic Authority to formulate age-appropriate syllabus, text books and learning material for all elementary classes.
The Goa Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (Second Amendment) Rules, 2017, have been amended giving powers to the government to specify its requirement before the Academic Authority.
“The Academic Authority shall design and implement a process of holistic school quality assessment on a regular basis,” Education Director G P Bhat said in the notification.
The Authority has to prepare class-wise, subject-wise learning outcomes for all elementary classes and also guidelines for putting into practice continuous and comprehensive evaluation, to achieve the defined learning outcomes. It has to also develop in-service teacher training design in the schools.
Off late, there have been a series of complaints from parents about the quality of education at primary level and the pressure on students.
