Govt serious on Mhadei: Minister

MAPUSA: “Mhadei is a major issue and we are fighting for it in the court. The government is serious about this battle and we have a strong case before the Supreme Court but confusion is being created by diverting the water illegally,” WRD Minister Felip Neri Rodrigues said on Tuesday.
“We have filed contempt petition and still Karnataka is trying to divert water. We have ascertained facts through photography evidence by visiting site; if required we will file second contempt petition,” Rodrigues said speaking at an inaugural function at Bastora.
“WRD officials recently visited the site of Khalsa Bhanduri Project and found that Karnataka has allowed water to be diverted. During monsoon, water gets diverted which itself is important for Goa and we cannot allow this to happen. We will ensure to seal Kalsa Bhanduri which is coming through Surla nullah and Barazan,” the WRD minister added.
“We will bring to the notice of Court that Goa is already being affected due to diversion as our next hearing is on January 20 and if required then we will submit in writing. Government has not failed in fighting legal battle at any stage and all successive governments have fought this battle and we have a strong case. However, I appeal to everyone not get panic and stay united and not politicised issue,” he said.
