Govt servants asked to work on Christmas day

PANJIM: The government employees working in the North Goa Collectorate office are peeved at the government decision to hold a programme in the Collectorate office on Christmas day, as part of Good Governance Week.

The North Goa Collectorate is celebrating Good Governance Week from December 20 to 26 under `Azaadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav.’ During the week, the district collector is holding special camps and events at the district level to resolve public grievances and for service delivery.

As part of the “Prashasan Gaon Ki Aur” campaign during Good Governance Week, celebrations were held in Bicholim, Bardez Pernem and Tiswadi talukas.

Leader of the Opposition Digamar Kamat has condemned the government’s decision to hold a programme on Christmas Day since it is a public holiday.

Taking to his tweeter handle, Kamat said, “Most insensitive @BJP4Goa Govt stopped HBA Scheme for its employees during the peak of COVID pandemic. The harassment continues till date by depriving the Govt Staff to be with their families during festival. I demand @goacm’s intervention to call off the propaganda activity.”

Former Goa Government Employees Association (GGEA) president John Nazareth said that this is a clear sign that the government is trying to disturb communal harmony prevailing in the State.

However when contacted, GGEA president Prashant Devidas told Herald that he was not aware about the programme to be held in the Collectorate office on public holiday. “Nobody brought it to my notice,” he said.
