Govt sets target of 20-35% growth in revenue collection

PANJIM: The State government has set a target of 20-35 per cent growth in the revenue collection for the financial year 2023-24, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said on Monday.

Sawant chaired a crucial meeting with the secretaries of all the concerned departments to finalise the action plan for implementation of various schemes and reforms announced in the State Budget 2023-24. A monthly review of Budget implementation would be undertaken to know the status.

Speaking to mediapersons post meeting, Sawant said that in 2022, the State had achieved 30 per cent growth in the revenue. He said that as against the target set of Rs 600 crore, the revenue surplus was Rs 900 crore.

“This year, we have set the target somewhere between 20-35 per cent. Focus is on excise, commercial, stamp tax and mining,” he said adding ‘each department has set their own revenue target, which they have to achieve by end of this financial year’.

With over 62 per cent of the last budget promises yet to be materialised, the Chief Minister has issued strict instructions to the secretaries to ensure that all the schemes, developmental projects and reforms, announced in this Budget, are rolled out this every financial year.

“Each department has prepared action plan month-wise to go ahead financially and administratively. Not just the schemes, but we will have to see that reforms are also put in place. Also foundation stone for the new projects are laid,” he said.
