PORVORIM: Reacting to the demand made by Calangute MLA Michael Lobo to apologise to fishermen, Fisheries Minister Avertano Furtado said he would have apologized if the demand had come from the fishermen.
“I personally came to Panjim after hearing of the incident. I spoke to the Chief Minister after the arrest of some of the fishermen. They were released at 1.30am and after they reached safely at home I slept at around 3.00am,” the minister said.
He informed the House that the government is taking care in settling all difficulties faced by the fishing community. “We are implementing all the schemes for financial assistance. The government has given top priority to fishing in Goa,” the minister said.
Referring to the incident in the May, the minister said police used some force to disperse the crowd. He said that as per the demand of the fishermen the notification to ban LED lights for deep sea fishing was shown to them.
