Govt should convince migrant labourers to stay back: Lobo

canacona: Port Minister and Calangute MLA Michael Lobo stated that state government will have to convince the migrant labourers to stay back because Goa is a progressive State and labourers are required.

“Goa is a progressive State and labourers are required because they are contributing to its economy. If the labourers return back to their native place, then various works, especially in the construction sector will be hampered and this will indirectly hamper the State’s economy,” Michael Lobo added.

He further added that migrants working under contractors are receiving proper food and shelter but however the daily wage workers, who stand on the roadside, are the ones who are suffering.

“They are scared if work for them will continue or not and if they will get the same wages as earlier or not. If the labourers go back to their native States then it will be difficult to get them back as they will go back to their farming activities there,” Lobo added.

“We need to work out a mechanism similar to how the Karnataka State has done. They are supporting organisations like in the construction sector where they are taking care of labourers in their State, Lobo added further.
