Govt slammed by GAKUVED for not clearing ST backlog

The authorities have given the go ahead to fill vacancies for teaching posts despite not clearing jobs as per legal and constitutional rights

PANJIM: The GAKUVED (Gawada, Kunbi, Velip and Dhangar communities) Federation has slammed the Goa government for giving a go-ahead to fill vacancies for teaching posts at a time when the ST backlog is still not cleared.
The Federation members along with unemployed youth of the ST community held a dharna outside the Directorate of Education on Monday demanding to withdraw the notification of advertisement for filling up the 183 posts.
“We met all possible government departments, none of the officials have denied our claims on backlog vacancies. The officials at the Directorate of Social Welfare and Tribal Welfare have informed us that the Directorate of Education has not even verified its roster prior to the advertisement. This is cheating of 182 ST primary teachers post and complete violation of our legal and constitutional rights,” the Federation’s General Secretary Rupesh Velip told reporters.
On September 4, the GAKUVED had submitted a memorandum to the State government and related departments demanding the Education Department withdraw the illegal advertisement.
