MARGAO: Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai on Friday accused the government for stifling the voice of the opposition by restricting the number of unstarred questions.
He has also demanded scrapping of the process of recruiting PSIs after Chief Minister’s claim that people close to ministers may have taken money to give jobs.
Addressing the media, Sardessai said the move of restricting the number of unstarred questions to 15 per MLA per day was bad, adding that any further attempt to stifle the voice of the people’s representatives will not be taken lying down.
He also urged the Chief Minister not to heed to any advice to postpone questions to a later date.
“Though the ensuing session is a six-day session, which means that most of the departments have only one day each for questions, I have done my best to cover all the important issues facing Goans today. I had asked a total of 107 questions, 18 starred and 89 unstarred, but the list of questions that I have received shows only 100. Naresh Sawal and Rohan Khaunte have been allowed 16 questions, while Mauvin Godinho has 17 on one day,” he said, while disclosing plans to take up the issue with the speaker.
Meanwhile, the Fatorda MLA has said that Chief Minister has promised police protection to the Muslim community to perform qurbani on the occasion of Eid at the Goa Meat Complex. “I have communicated the CM’s assurance to the Muslim delegation and they appeared satisfied. I don’t know the stand of other organisations,” he added.
