CANACONA: In a swift move, the State government has suspended Sub Registrar of Canacona Premanand Dessai over some irregularities with regards to notary documents.
Sources said that the Vigilance Department issued the suspension order on Friday.
Sources further stated that there were complaints against Dessai such as attending office in a drunken state, delaying the registration processes, etc.
It is learnt that Dessai was reportedly warned and reprimanded in the past with the head office issuing a memo on the certain complaints of dereliction of duties.
It may be recalled that recently State Chief Civil Registrar Ashutosh Apte had conducted a raid on the Canacona Sub-Registrar’s Office, however, Dessai was not found on his seat during working hours.
After examining some files, Apte is learnt to have seized some files and later visited the Deputy Collector after learning that Dessai had left the office during office hours.
After receiving directions, the Canacona Police went in search of Dessai at his residence but could not find him.
After receiving complaints against Dessai, the State Civil Registrar’s Office had raided the office to check some documents and investigate them. It is learnt that the report of the same was later submitted to the government.
