PANJIM: The State government on Sunday issued an order under Disaster Management Act taking over the admission of patients for 50 per cent of the bed capacity of 21 major private hospitals of the State for a period of one month.

The admissions of the COVID-19 patients will be done as per the directions of the designated government officials and payment for DDSSY beneficiaries will be made by the government to the hospitals based on the treatment provided and upon verification of the bills as per the rates fixed by the government.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Saturday had announced taking over the private hospitals after they were found to have not been complying with the government directions to reserve 50 per cent beds for COVID patients.

The Revenue Secretary also stated in the order that some private hospitals were either not admitting or charging exorbitant fees from COVID patients as well as denying treatment to DDSSY beneficiaries.
