Govt to appoint Mamlatdars to deal with mutations, mudkarial, tenancy cases

The Minister said that the government is not involving any private agency and everything will be through Goa Electronic Limited (GEL).

PANJIM: Revenue Minister Atanasio Babush Monserrate on Monday announced the decision to reshuffle the powers of Mamlatdars with regard to maintaining law and order in situations and quasi-judicial matters.

The decision has been taken to appoint dedicated Mamlatdars, across all talukas, to expedite the pending mudkarial and tenancy cases, within a month’s time.

Speaking to media persons, Monserrate said, “The Mamlatdars are involved in multi-tasking such as handling cases of tenancy, mundkarial, mutations, etc. as well as law and order situations.”

“We need to reshuffle the powers. There has to be separate Mamlatdar to deal with cases and another to handle law and order,” he said.

The Minister said that he had a meeting with Secretary and both District Collectors, last month, wherein they brought to my notice that we are lacking in Mamlatdars.

“The difficulty is that is less number of Mamlatdars and they are assigned tasks such as law and order maintenance in addition to their other duties like dealing with land cases,” he said.

“We will appoint dedicated Mamlatdars only to look into mundkarial and tenancy case, which needs to be disposed off in a time-bound manner,” Monserrate added.

Speaking further, Monserrate said that the proposal of installing CCTVs in all offices of the Revenue Department as well as the District Collectorate, for direct monitoring by the Minister’s office is pending due to some financial issues.

“Everything is ready. There are some financial issues which will be resolved soon. I am looking into the matter,” he informed.

The Minister said that the government is not involving any private agency and everything will be through Goa Electronic Limited (GEL).
