Govt to change to Bharat Net by 2025

PANJIM: Union Minister for Communications, Electronics and Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad on Saturday assured support to the State government to change to Bharat Broadband Network Limited (Bharat Net) for high speed rural connectivity and to make Goa an electronic manufacturing hub. 

The Union Minister, who was in Goa to attend the inauguration of new High Court building, later chaired a meeting at the Minister’s Block, Porvorim to discuss on implementing the Bharat Net scheme in Goa so as to ensure high speed connectivity in each village. 

The Union Minister reviewed the progress of various projects related to telecom, electronics and information technology (IT) sectors. He also discussed about the ongoing project of Electronic Manufacturing Cluster at Tuem in Pernem taluka.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said that he discussed with the Union Minister on implementing Bharat Net scheme in the State so as to ensure high speed connectivity in each village.

According to Sawant, the Union Minister appreciated the progress on ground and assured him that he will provide all support to make Goa an electronic manufacturing hub as well as to ensure last mile connectivity in the State.

The State government intends to replace the Goa Broadband Network (GBBN) by Bharat Net by 2025 to connect the all village panchayats and government offices in the State. 

The Government of India’s ambitious Bharat Net, the largest rural network project is aimed to provide internet service to rural people and nearly 2.5 lakh village panchayats across the country.  

Meanwhile, the government disbursed Rs 12 lakh in the second tranche of Seed Capital Scheme under the Goa StartUp Policy.

Mattzus Learning Technology Private Limited; Bodhami Private Limited; Wealthchunk Investments Private Limited and Yorokobi Technologies Private Limited were the recipients of the scheme.

IT Minister Jennifer Monserrate tweeted, “I am proud to announce that we have successfully completed the disbursement of the second tranche of Seed Capital Scheme under Goa Start-Up Policy. The Start-Up Policy aims to boost the StartUps and help them recover from the challenges presented due to the pandemic.”

“We are committed to our word of empowering Start-Ups and to help them achieve their aspirations,” Jennifer said.
