PANJIM: The State government has decided to further extend the deadline for registration under the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) by another three months from July 1 onwards. However, developers will have to shell out Rs two lakh as penalty for getting their projects on board.
The last date for filing online applications for ongoing real estate projects registrations under RERA was March 23 without penalty, while with a penalty of Rs 50,000 applications were accepted till March 31. The Department of Urban Development has further hiked the penalty from April 1 to April 30 and further from May 1 to July 1.
Urban Development Minister Francis D’Souza said the government has cleared the file for a further three month extension. “Fine for non-compliance has been raised from Rs one lakh to Rs two lakh,” he said.
The Minister said that till date around 150 projects have been registered under RERA.
Social Activists Kashinath Shetye, Dr Ketan Govekar and others have filed a contempt petition before the High Court in the matter stating that, as per the court’s March 6 order, if the period for registration of ongoing projects has to be extended, “the State shall apply to the court and satisfy the court that the extension is necessary, by making an appropriate application”.
