Govt to introduce Anti-Conversion Bill in monsoon session, says CM Sawant

PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Saturday said that the government will introduce the Anti-Conversion Bill in the ensuing monsoon session of Goa Assembly in order to ensure that religious conversions are stopped in the State.

Sawant said that few MLAs have suggested to bring in a law to ban religious conversion following the arrest of Domnic D’Souza, a Pastor of 5 Pillars Church at Siolim.

“Domnic was involved in converting poor and sick people by claiming to have magical powers for last 30 years. Now because few youth came forward to file complaint against him, we could arrest him,” he said adding that the police have thoroughly searched his house and lot of incriminating evidence was found in the house.

Addressing the BJP State executive committee meeting in the city, Sawant said that building of new India is the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and we should contribute our bit by working relentlessly with the theme of Seva, Sushasan and Garib Kalyan.

Sawant stressed on implementation of various projects under Seva, helping and supporting people under `Sushasan’ and reaching to the common people with the benefits of all the Central and State level schemes under Garib Kalyan.

After the meeting, BJP State President Sadanand Shet Tanavade told reporters that the party will launch `Mass Contact’ campaign in all 40 Assembly constituencies while, every Cabinet minister will visit party’s district offices every month. He said that booth strengthening campaign inaugurated by party’s national President J P Nadda on May 25 in Delhi will continue till July 31. During the two-month-long campaign, various programmes will be organised and information of various government schemes will be told to the people.

Tanavade said that Modi will address the nation from Himachal Pradesh on Monday, May 30, to mark completion of his eight years at the Centre.

“The party leaders and the supporters will campaign and meet those people who had availed the schemes of both, Central and State governments. An effort will also be made to interact with those people who instead of being eligible for the scheme failed to avail the benefits”, he added.
