PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has announced the proposal to launch two books on the life and political career of former Chief Minister late Manohar Parrikar on the latter’s birth anniversary on December 13, 2019.
Speaking at the World Photography Day in Panjim on Monday, the Chief Minister has also urged the photo journalists in Goa to contribute all the photographs of his predecessor’s political journey to the Department of Information & Publicity (DIP), so as to convert it into a pictorial book.
“Give all the pictures of his (Parrikar) political career to the DIP. We will select among these photographs to compile it in form of a book,” he informed the Photo Journalists Association of Goa (PJAG). The government, he said, will award the photo journalists for the best clicks of Parrikar.
“The government will also come out with a book on his (Parrikar’s) life and political journey. We intend to release both these books on his birth anniversary on December 13 this year,” he said in the presence of Minister for Art & Culture Govind Gaude, Parrikar’s son Utpal and others.
Dr Sawant applauded the association for displaying the contribution of Parrikar through photography recalling his tenure under his leadership.
The Chief Minister has also granted unique opportunity to the PJAG to unravel unidentified touristic spots in the State and provide due exposure to these spots so that they come in public eye to boost tourism. “There are several tourist spots which have not been explored. Photo journalists can click these unseen tourist places so that it can be highlighted in the tourist map,” he added.
In another proposal to the association, the Chief Minister has mooted the idea to tie up with the former for providing photographs of the International Film Festival of India to the government instead of engaging any outside agency.
He has also appealed to the association to initiate and commence photography courses in State under the Scheme of the Directorate of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. “This will encourage the Goan youth to develop hidden talent in photography,” he added.
Gaude applauded the efforts of the photo journalists stating that pictures explain one’s expression and feelings.
The Chief Minister and Art and Culture Minister felicitated Prashant Yelekar, Laurenco Fernandes and Makarand Barve for their dedicated services in their photography profession. They also gave away the prizes to the winners of the competition organised by the association.
