Govt to omit Daman and Diu from all Goa Acts and Rules

To allot land to Aastha Society for hostel facility for special children

PANJIM: The State Cabinet on Wednesday decided to allot government land to the Aastha Society to construct a hostel facility for special children at Khorlim-Mapusa and to omit words `Daman and Diu’ from all Goa Acts and Rules made thereunder.

Briefing media persons after the cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant said that the cabinet approved a proposal to allocate a vacant 3030 square metres of land of the Urban Health Centre, Directorate of Health Services situated at Khorlim-Mapusa to the Mapusa-based NGO Aastha Society for construction of a hostel facility for special children. 

The land has been given to the Aastha Society on a 30-year lease and it will be reverted to the government if the NGO fails to construct the building and put it to use within next four years. 

Also remaining 4680 square metre of land will be allocated to the Mapusa Municipal Council for road widening and balance 3815 square metres of land will remain with the Urban Health Centre, Khorlim-Mapusa. 

The cabinet gave ex-post facto approval to release Rs 1,11,46,762 as grant-in-aid to supplement payment of salaries to the staff of Administrator of Communidades of North zone and South zone. 

The cabinet decided to appoint additional 25 Kissan Mitra members in the Directorate of Agriculture, to motivate and facilitate farmers for availing benefits of new schemes and programmes implemented by the Government of India.

In another decision, the cabinet decided to omit expression ‘Daman and Diu’ from all Goa Acts and Rule made thereunder. 

The erstwhile Goa Daman and Diu Union Territory attained Statehood in May 1987 and still some Act and Rules have remained as Goa Daman and Diu. Now a bill, Goa Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2021 will be introduced in the Goa Legislative Assembly, to omit the words Daman and Diu. 

The cabinet also decided to create a full-fledged Department of Public-Private Partnership by upgrading the existing Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Cell. It also approved proposals to amend the Goa Town and Country Planning (TCP) Act, 1974 and the Goa Waste Management Corporation Act, 2016.  

The cabinet further granted post-facto approval for ward of remediation work at Sonsoddo, near Margao to M/s Hindustan Waste Treatment Private Limited.
