Govt to penalise illegal tourism trade businesses

All tourism trade activities should be registered on or before September 15, failing which electricity and water connection will be disconnected

PANJIM: The State Tourism Department on Tuesday threatened to penalize and also disconnect electricity and water supply connections of the tourism trade businesses allegedly operating illegally. Through a public advisory issued, the department has asked such businesses to register by September 15 or face action. 

“It has come to the notice of the Department that various Tourism Trade related activities such as hotels / guest house, homestays, tourist guides, watersports activities, private shacks, temporary huts, dealers, travel agencies, photographers and a few new activities such as spice plantations. Online service providers, adventure sports, etc. haven’t been registered / renewed under the Goa Registration of Tourist Trade Act, 1982 and operating illegally,” states the advisory. 

“It is hereby directed that all such trade activities shall be registered, on or before 15/09/2023. Failing which the same shall be penalised and which may also lead to disconnection of electricity and water connection as per the provisions under the Goa Registration of Tourist Trade Act, 1982,” it reads.
