Govt to provide 16 lakh LED bulbs to rural households

PANJIM: A total of 16 lakh LED bulbs will be provided to all rural households in the State by the Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL) under the convergence project. 

Department of New and Renewable Energy Director Aleixo Da Costa said that the Energy Efficiency Services Limited, a joint venture of all public sector undertakings (PSUs) under the Union Ministry of Power has established the CESL under the convergence project.

The CESL will provide one LED bulb free of charge to every household situated in rural areas. This LED bulb will be a rechargeable bulb providing emergency backup light in case of power failure.

The CESL will make the total investment and there is no financial implication on the State government. The CESL will also set up 110 MW solar power project. This 110 MW solar power generated will be fed in different grid from various sub-stations of the Electricity Department, he said.

According to da Costa, at present 1 MW solar power project has been set up at the Electricity Department sub-station at Cuncolim as a pilot project and it has already been commissioned and connected to the grid. 

Da Costa said that the government will only give land to the CESL to set up more 1 MW solar power plants at various sub-stations across the State. 

The government has identified unutilised land at various sub-stations belonging to the Electricity Department and Water Resources Department, he said adding that the department had also asked the Revenue Department to give their unutilised land. 

Besides this, the CESL will also provide 11,000 agricultural pumps to farmers in the State under the convergence project.
