Govt to revamp GIDC’s functioning

PANJIM: As a first step towards streamlining the functioning of the Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC), the State government has decided to digitise all corporation’s records through Goa Electronics Limited (GEL).
Industries Minister Vishwajit Rane is working towards reorganisation the industrial sector. He is likely to hold meeting with GIDC chairman Glen Ticlo to hold discussion on revamping the functioning of GIDC, which was marred into controversies in the past.
“We have to digitise all the records of GIDC. For this purpose, I have already spoken to GEL to work out the proposal. Digitisation of the records will be my top priority,” Rane said.
The minister said it is very important to streamline basic things, such as transfers, payment of leases, etc. “This will help in availing the date at hand, anytime,” he said.
GIDC during its board meeting last year had resolved to digitise its records, however, the same could not take shape. When contacted, Ticlo, welcomed the move of Industries Minister and said that the Corporation was already in talks with GEL for digitising its records and to bring its other services online.
Chairman said with support of Industries Minister, he would like to strengthen GIDC.  “When I took over GIDC, the corporation was running into losses. I took up various measures like uniform annual lease rent, recovery of pending dues, allotment of plots, etc and brought a revenue of Rs six crore,” he said.  The Goa IDC was established by the Government of Goa, Daman & Diu in February 1966 under the provisions of Goa, Daman and Diu Industrial Development Act, 1965 with the aims and objectives of securing and assisting in the rapid and orderly establishment of industries in industrial areas and industrial estates in Goa.
