Govt to rope in social media influencers to promote schemes

PANJIM: The Goa government will rope in social media influencers to promote the schemes and the work done by the government for the welfare of the people.

This was informed by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant after unveiling the empanelment of social media influences portal at the Matralaya, Porvorim. Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) Vice Chairperson and MLA Delilah Lobo and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ankita Mishra, IAS, were also present.

Sawant said, “The government has been taking its programmes to the people through radio, television and newspapers but it has been noticed that now social media influencers also have become important. Therefore, it has been decided that the government will empanel social media influencers.”

 “The influencers will be categorised according to their followers and subscribers. Based on that, even the rates will be decided. The content will be generated by the social media influencers. However, they will have to get approval from the government for their content. The government too will provide them with its content,” the Chief Minister said.

The main eligibility to be empanelled is to be above 18 years old and being a resident of Goa for at least 15 years, he said.

Initially the contract would be signed for one year and later it can be extended to three years, he said.

There would be a selection committee to select the influencers, he said, adding that the maximum number of influencers has not been decided yet. Empanelment will be determined based on the highest count of followers, leading to various categories.

The Chief Minister said after Rajasthan, Goa is the second State to implement such a scheme. He said the scheme will have a budgetary provision of Rs 2.5 crore. The scheme will be implemented after the culmination of the upcoming budget session of the Goa Assembly.  

February 14, 2024, is the last date for the social media influencers to register.
