Govt to set up full-fledged power dept building at Mapusa substation

MAPUSA: During his visit to Mapusa on Wednesday, Power Minister Nilesh Cabral informed that a full-fledged Electricity Department building will be set up at the existing substation in the Housing Board. 

Cabral said, “Files for the new full-fledged building have already been moved. The entire cost of the project is Rs 30 crore and Division VI will be established in this building. However, a call on demolishing the existing building will be taken later”.

The minister further informed that the department will also install 20 transformers across the State by February-end. Ten transformers of 6.3 mva and ten transformers of 10 mva will be installed in different parts including Mapusa, Candolim and Saligao and by February-end the installation work will be complete.”

He said, “The existing conductors will be replaced with HTLS to solve the power outage problem that people face in April and May. The project file is presently with the Finance Department. Once the project is tendered, the power supply issue of the next 15 years will be solved.”

Cabral informed that a new substation will come up in Calangute and for this, land has been identified and the owner has been paid Rs 2.43 crore.
