PANJIM: With April 1, 2016 set as deadline for implementing the ambitious universal Mediclaim Scheme—Deen Dayal Swasthya Seva (DDSS) – Goa government now intends to tie up with private and government hospitals from various States across the country for providing health cover to its residents.
Speaking to media persons, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Health Francis D’Souza said the scheme, providing health cover to those who have been residing in Goa for atleast five years, would be implemented from April 1, next year. He said that the government along with the successful bidder will begin making health cards from January.
“The agency for implementing the medicalim scheme will be finalized by December-end. Thereafter till March, next year, the health cards will be distributed to the people,” he said.
Stating that it is a first of its kind universal health cover scheme in the country, he said the government will tie up with private and government hospitals in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore and other metros, for availing benefit of the scheme to its residents working there.
“We will be soon notifying the names of the hospital which would be covered under the scheme,” he said adding that in Goa, with introduction of the scheme, services in Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) would be also charged.
