Govt to undertake labour reforms, public services: Avertano

Innovative schemes have been initiated in the north and will spread all over the state

MARGAO: Labour Minister Avertano Furtado on Thursday announced a host of public services and labour reforms that government had either started or planned.
He informed that a village-level system of delivering certificates online had been started, and it was the first of its kind in India. He said it would be extended across Goa and added, “Over 10,000 certificates have been delivered to the public online so far. A single-window system of ‘partition of land’ has also been introduced as an innovative e-governance project in North Goa, and it will soon be expanded all over the State.”
He further informed that amendments to the Labour Law, increasing the contribution to the Labour Welfare Fund and raising the minimum wages in government departments, autonomous bodies and corporations had been proposed.
For the safety of women in Goa, a special women’s battalion with nine lady police sub-inspectors and 221 lady police constables will be created.
“As promised earlier, the ‘Passport Seva Kendra’ will take shape at South Goa collectorate office for the benefit of South Goa citizens. Work on it has already begun,” said Furtado, adding that the government would soon introduce mobile fish vans in other parts of Goa and a fast ferry service connecting Dona Paula to Vasco. The government also intended to boost hinterland tourism by according special status to eco-tourism.
“The government has planned to set up a global school of tourism and a school of strategic and security studies. A provision of Rs 1 crore to create an event calendar along with city branding has been proposed. Also, an international convention centre with world-class facilities will be constructed at Panjim to attract global conventions to Goa,” added Furtado.
