PANJIM: In view of complaints that several government schools are facing structural neglect, the government has issued tenders to upgrade the schools in Bardez, Bicholim and Sattari that report maximum grievances with regards to poor maintenance.
The Goa State Infrastructural Development Corporation (GSIDC) issued separate tenders for the three talukas inviting bidders for repair/upgradation and maintenance of the government schools. The work comprises of civil, plumbing and electrical.
Three primary schools in Bardez – Abade Faria-Candolim, Dando-Candolim and Khairat- Oxel and three in Sattari at Saleli, Mauxi and Dabos besides government medium school and high school at Velguem and Shelop Khurd respectively will also undergo renovation. In Bicholim, the government has undertaken similar “balance work” at primary schools in Jambhulbhat Maye and Vaingini Maye.
Several government-run schools, especially in the rural areas have been in dilapidated condition. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant had recently stated that 300 schools have been upgraded and renovated wherein these institutions are also provided with new benches, new black board and computer systems to the teachers and students. The Education Department submitted other 150-odd proposals for undertaking similar work through the GSIDC.
Over a year ago, the government had identified around 50 government primary schools in poor condition and GSIDC was directed to undertake repairs. The GSIDC had then also projected Rs 15-18 crore on the repairs of the schools across all the talukas.
