PANJIM:Congress has accused the State government of forcibly usurping land for the proposed IIT project at Shel-Melauli. Addressing a press conference at party head office on Sunday, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Girish Chodankar charged the government with ‘torturing’ the anti-IT group.

“The entire Goa is disturbed over the events that unfolded at Shel-Melauli. The way government is illegally usurping land… People are trying to protect their land and seek justice but the government is misusing the police force to torture them,” he alleged.

Chodankar also accused the authorities of violating the human rights of the Goans, farmers, activists, political party leaders who have been a part of the anti-IIT group. “Various sections have been imposed against them to create a sense of fear. Human right violations are on. The police force is illegally taking law into their hands,” he further alleged.

“It is a dictatorial government,” the GPCC chief added.

The GPCC, condemning the incident against the villagers, has demanded that government directs the police to stop taking law in their hands or ‘encroaching into judiciary’ by allowing the court to take appropriate action.
